Care Our Communities Deserve

Join us and special guest Congressman Andy Kim on Monday, August 31st at 5pm, International Overdose Awareness Day, for Care our Communities Deserve: A Roundtable for Affordable Drugs and Treatments.  We’ll have a community discussion about the solutions we’re fighting for to lower the cost of prescription drugs, increase access to medically assisted treatments, and make a vaccine affordable to us all in this crucial moment of pandemic. Medicines only work if people can afford them, and treatments only work if we all have access.

No matter what we look like or where we come from, the COVID-19 pandemic reminds us that at our core, we are all human. Our ability to get and stay well depends on everyone having what we need to prevent, treat, and recover from illness. But when it comes to the overdose crisis ravaging our communities, a powerful few try to distract us from the role they’ve played in letting drug corporations flood our communities with painkillers while writing the rules in their favor to price life saving medications out of our reach

While we struggle to make ends meet and must choose between paying bills and buying expensive prescriptions, drug corporations remain the most profitable industry in America.

Now many of these same companies are responsible for developing a COVID-19 vaccine and treatments using billions of our tax dollars with no guarantee that it will be accessible or affordable for us all.

Now more than ever it is important for all of us to be able to afford the care and treatment we need to be healthy. As disaster survivors, we know all too well what happens when we let corporations make decisions for us. Americans pay for the research and development of our medicines, and we deserve to afford them. That’s why we’re coming together.

More Info: The Federal government has already given drug corporations billions of our tax dollars to develop a COVID-19 vaccine and treatments with no promise of affordability for all while their executives and shareholders are already making massive profits off of speculation alone.
